About Alex Rattray

Alex never felt like he fit in at school. He had hoped that Art College would be different but it turned out to be just more of the same. Edinburgh Art College was always where he wanted to attend but after about a year there it felt too much like a factory churning out the same artistic styles. It also felt like there would be very few job prospects by the end of it all. Alex had lost faith in art as a career so he left to find something new.

Alex didn’t expect to find it in tattooing; that came along as an accident… a very happy accident.

Alex has now been tattooing for over 20 years. In that time, Alex has won dozens of awards at many tattoo conventions all over the world.

Alex opened the Edinburgh Empire Ink in 2017. After the first Studio was a success, Alex opened the Glasgow studio in 2020 (weeks before COVID closed it again).

Alex specialises in Colour Realism but is also very fond of doing black and grey realism.

Half Day Mini Portrait Tattoos

The following designs are black and grey half day tattoos and are tattooed about 3 inches (7.5cm) in size. The ones with the red X have already been taken but Alex can design something similar if that’s what you were after.
